NaNoWriMo 2011: Bye-bye Distractions?

Postby Aa-chan » Wed Nov 02, 2011 10:38 am

... Any tips for getting rid of obnoxious husbands that watch their anime (on their computer) too loud, as though they're deaf, and refuse to use the headphones you offer them because it's pink, and they don't want to "look stupid" in front of the new roommate? ._.; I'm about to bash my head through the wall here. I only got to 500 words for yesterday. :/ Some of it was a migraine, and ADHD (it's about 75% controlled by a medication called Strattera), but I totally blame the boy. ><;

I dunno. How do you guys make distractions go away? :/ Any suggestions for one with ADHD? I'd appreciate any help. :nyan:

Use those headphones to listen to your own music. Last year, I listened to the How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack on loop whenever I wrote. Coincidentally, the music actually fits with Dark's Shadow.
So yeah. I'd suggest finding a soundtrack that fits the overall theme of your novel, and listen to that while you write.
"Xena: I never dreamed that we'd be distanced by a hate
That all the trust we had would go

Gabrielle: How could I hate you
Xena: How could it come to pass?
This awful twist of fate

Gabrielle: How could I hurt you
Xena: This madness can't be so
Gabrielle: I can't believe it
Xena: I never dreamed that any barriers could rise
Gabrielle: Or that I'd ever see the stranger in your eyes
Xena: Our hearts were hurting both the same
Gabrielle: The hurt was tearing up our souls
Xena: The fury in us made us blind
Gabrielle: We could not see beyond the pain
Xena: If we can turn again to love
Gabrielle: If we can heal these open wounds
Xena: We'll leave this hatred far behind
Gabrielle: So not a trace of hate remains
Both: We'll overcome our damaged past
And we'll grow stronger side by side
To stand together through the storms
We're safe ‘cause love will be our guide"

If you're like me, also don't go to wikipedia.

Listen to music. Go to the quietest place in the apartment if you can't go out. Go to the library if you can or meet up with other NaNoWriMo writers in your area. :) Hang in there Aa-chan.
Don't play sims-social either. *dies*

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working. Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

^ This. That last part especially.

And no matter what, don't let your best friend talk you into searching for purple and blue converse for your Gakupo and Kaito cosplays!

Wait...

Darn it! I didn't listen to my own advice!

Oh, and avoid TVTropes too. This is a black hole on the internet, even for people like me who don't have ADHD. Once you go in, you can't come out. :wince:

It is its own Event Horizon.
"It has been said that we each must pay a price to know our god. I would say that the price we pay determines which god we know. The man who spends his time and money on vices comes to know his god, Pleasure. Likewise, the man who pays his will to his temper knows well the god of Anger."
