((I'm thinking I may jump in with Zalm. I'm guessing he'd be some sort of Baronian aristocrat..... Or something. I'm having some fun writing him in my NaNo, 'cause he often speaks in purple prose and enjoys pretending he's crazy. ^^))

(Sounds fine to me... and location appropriate)

Zakhin'Dakh's screech translated into something like "Ooooooo..." as he looked at the magicy-thing... portal he had called it? The big griffon cautiously approached it, poked it a couple of times with a talon, and then jumped through.

There was a town-thing on the other side of the portal, but it wasn't the town-thing he had seen from the air earlier. Not to mention there weren't as many trees around here. Zakhin'Dakh turned back to the portal and waved at Theodore with a cheery screech.
"It has been said that we each must pay a price to know our god. I would say that the price we pay determines which god we know. The man who spends his time and money on vices comes to know his god, Pleasure. Likewise, the man who pays his will to his temper knows well the god of Anger."

((Sounds fun to me. Who wants to play the town guards?))

Theodore waved back and stepped through the portal, which did indeed collapse behind him, rapidly drawing in on itself before disappearing.
Getting a better look at the town, he frowned.
"That doesn't look quite right..." he muttered, thinking. Had there been some construction project planned? He might have been gone for longer than it had seemed...
-Suki?- he called to the castle with his mind. -Suki, I'm back.-
No response.
Theodore started to panic.
-Suki? SuKiRa!-
Still no answer. Theodore threw the call over the castle and the town, a call that only other mind-mages could hear but any other mind-mage could hear.
-SuKiRa! Zeb! Can anyone even hear me?-
Things started clicking into place in his mind: that dark place that no light could reveal, because there was nothing to reveal. An absolute-location transport spell feeling like he was not where he thought he was. The broken compass. The town and castle not looking quite right.
Suki and Zeb not answering him.
Stay calm. If you panic you'll never get home.
"I suppose the only thing to do is to investigate the town." Theodore looked over at his companion. "Are you coming?"

Zakhin'Dakh's uncertain screech translated to something like "Uhhh..." Then he screeched some actual Great Eagle.

"Sometimes people don't really like me coming in towns..."

(I don't feel like playing the guards. Somebody else do it!)

((Well, I have no objection to doing it, but that would result in a rather lengthy sequence of essentially roleplaying with myself. Maracate, do you want to or should I go ahead and try?))

(Oh, I'm sure that Zakhin'Dakh would add to the conversation some. You wouldn't be just role-playing with yourself. But if Maracate wants it, that would be best.)

(hey, can I jump in? I don't know how often I'll be able to reply, but since I'm thinking of being Soressa, and she's...well, taciturn and insular are kind of understatements, unless she's worried or ticked off, it shouldn't be that bad. And I should have more time, now that my book list is back to normal.)

(Yay! Soressa's about 5'5", dark tan skin, black hair, dark green eyes, wearing- yes- black pants and tunic and belt).

Soressa leaned against a tree and frowned. This was not Aurora's world, which was where Raven had said they would be going. That was the first problem. The second, and by far the greater, was that neither Raven nor Aulira seemed to have ended up in it with her. She ground her teeth in frustration. She had no way now to get to where she was supposed to be, since she wasn't a Traveler. I hate being stuck. And worse, I've lost Aulira. If she was separated from Raven, she'd be stuck as well. Soressa fingered the hilt of her lightsaber. If anything happens to her, I will kill Raven- stuck or not.Suddenly, a mind shout rang into her head causing her to wince. With her shielding stil down, it was loud enough to be slightly painful.
-SuKiRa! Zeb! Can anyone even hear me?-
What in the world was that? Soressa jerked upright, mind alert. Cautiously, she made her way toward where she had felt the sending coming from, trying to think of where she might have ended up. If this was Lyssa's world, she was in big trouble.

((I can, try, though there's no guarantee it'll be any good - I ended up cutting the guards out of one of my works because it sounded weird.
