One new breedable that I took note at over the winter holidays is the upcoming BattleBeast dragons. These creatures are currently in development, but slated to release sometime in February. I’m a member of the BattleBeast Breedable group and was planning on covering the release, but due to a submission (thank you!), decided to take a closer look at these guys ahead of time. They certainly seem to be a breedable that fantasy lovers should keep an eye on!
While I’ve not had any hands-on time with them, the pictures provided display dragons that both battle and allow avatars to ride. Here’s a bit more about the BattleBeast Breedables, taken from the website’s FAQ section:
1. What is BattleBeast Breedables?
BattleBeast Breadables is a new and unique breedable animal in SL that will be available soon! It will be an amazing experience that combines breeding, gaming and role playing. The first generation of Beasts are various species of dragons, and we have exciting plans for other beasts, beyond that! You can read our backstory here.2. How will BattleBeast dragons work?
The breeding aspect will be similar to other SL breedable experiences, in ways that are familiar and easy to use. What’s new is that there will be breedable traits that are valuable for gaming, as well as traits that affect the dragon appearance and behavior. Feel free to browse the Dragon Handbook to learn more.3. Can you tell us more about the gaming?
The gaming will be turn-based, HUD-driven, as owners challenge each other and their dragons go 1-on-1 in battle. Battle can be done in your home sim, a sandbox, or a special tournament arena. Battle moves will be easy-to-learn (or familiar for gamers), including concepts such as: levelling, damage, strength, stamina, hit points, etc.Battling Dragons!
4. Why have a breedable and a gaming animal together in one?
The concept is to have the breeding and the gaming be beneficial to each other.
The breeding may produce traits which affect that animal’s ability to win in battle. These combat traits may be passed on to their young, as with regular traits.
… Better breeding means better combat animals.
Similarly, combat experience, levels, tournament wins, etc. may increase that animal’s ability to mate and produce special offspring, producing regular traits, combat traits, and rare animals.

The Beasts will vary in prim count from the high teens to the low 20’s. They are currently sculpt-based, and we are watching the progress of mesh deployment within SL to determine when we should migrate some details to mesh. (Mesh will not be required.)6. When will the BattleBeasts be available?
Alpha testing has already been accomplished. Further testing is currently underway.
We are anticipating the first release for full breedable and combat usage in February.7. How much will dragons cost?
Prices are still Confidential, and will be announced when released. Being breeders ourselves, we are sensitive to this issue, and the prices will be consistent with the breedable market, and the value of the game.8. How do I find out more information?
