The World Time Has Forgotten

About Runne

In all honesty, Runne is a story that I’ve tried very hard not to write. At this point, I have a number of different projects all begging for attention, and so little time to give to them all. However, when NaNoWriMo 2011 rolled around, so many people were chattering about joining up, which inspired me to give it a shot. This site will host the outcome of that writing spree.

The first thing that has kept me from attempting Runne is the fact that I know very little about the world and the details of the storyline. I know some of the major events and I know enough about the characters who play roles in these events. But stringing them together to make a story seems impossible. Runne covers a very, very large span of time — hundreds of years need to pass between the beginning and end of the story. So how to put something like that into a novel format… well… that was always my big question.

That’s when I decided I wouldn’t even try it. Instead, consider Runne like a series of short stories, similar to seasons on a TV show. Using this format, I’m able to easily jump through time and visit with different characters, who each play important roles within the Runnian history at different points. This not-so-linear format allows me to write events as I feel like writing them without the overarching outline limiting what I do. That doesn’t mean I am writing things at random, but that does mean that I’ll write only what I feel is important and most interesting.

I’ve also been conflicted with how I want to display Runne. Part of me didn’t want to do another novel. The other part of me knew I couldn’t try another webcomic. So, I’m trying to meet it somewhere in the middle. What I’d LIKE to do is a little bit of both — a nice piece of representative art followed by shorter segments of writing. I’m going to break up longer chapters into more bite-sized sections, somewhat the length of a blog post. I feel this format works well for the Internet overall. Plus, if I decide to continue writing Runne outside of NaNoWriMo, I’ll be more motivated if the sections I write are shorter.

How will all this work out? I don’t know yet. I’m just going to give it a try. Like many of the projects on the Sygnus Network, this will be an experiment.. one that I’ll probably look back on in a few years and question. ^_~

Thanks in advanced for reading! I hope you enjoy!
